Soccer for Success® is the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s free afterschool program that uses soccer as a tool to address children's health issues and juvenile delinquency, while promoting healthy lifestyles in urban underserved communities.
The Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club began running Soccer for Success in fall 2012 with 700 children. We are excited to be serving 3,000 players in the metro area this Spring. We will have over 250 coach mentors from the community devoting their time to serving our players.
Programming runs in both Fall and Spring, and we are going to be the lucky site to pilot summer programming, beginning in Summer 2016. Practices run three days a week, with the goal of having players experiencing 60-75 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day.
Recently, a year-long extensive study was conducted on Soccer for Success, and results showed that the children enrolled in Soccer for Success experience statistically significant greater health improvements - in comparison to children enrolled in other non-athletic, non-nutrition-based afterschool programming with similar schedules to Soccer for Success!
